Aluminium Tile Trim Installation and Care Instructions
Scope of Application
These instructions apply to aluminium tile trims, floor trims, transition trims and decorative trim products.
1. Installation Precautions
1.1 Keep the Protective Film On
The protective film on the product surface should only be removed after all tile installation, grouting and cleaning work has been completed.
Do not remove the protective film at the early stage of installation.
The protective film helps protect the trim surface from:
- Tile adhesive contamination
- Grout contamination
- Scratches from tools
- Contact with chemicals
1.2 Protection During Installation
After installation, installers are recommended to protect the visible surface of the trim using:
- Masking tape
- Protective film
- Other non-corrosive protective materials
This is especially important during the following works:
- Tile installation
- Grouting
- Acid washing
- Cleaning
1.3 Clean Tile Adhesive and Grout Immediately
Tile adhesive, grout and other cement-based materials are highly alkaline.
If any material comes into contact with the trim surface during installation, it must be wiped clean immediately using clean water and a soft cloth.
Do not allow tile adhesive, grout or cement slurry to remain on the trim surface for an extended period.
1.4 Avoid Mechanical Damage
During installation, avoid:
- Direct scraping with metal tools
- Cleaning or rubbing with steel wool
- Sanding with abrasive paper
- Impact from hard objects
These may damage the surface finish.
2. Cleaning and Maintenance
2.1 General Cleaning
For routine cleaning, it is recommended to use:
- Clean water
- Neutral cleaning detergent
- A soft cloth or sponge
The surface should be dried promptly after cleaning.
2.2 Products Not to Be Used
The following products must not be used:
Strong Acids
- Hydrochloric acid
- Tile acid wash products
- Brick cleaner
- Cement residue remover
Strong Alkalis
- High-concentration degreasers
- Industrial alkaline cleaners
Abrasive Products
- Steel wool
- Metal brushes
- Abrasive polishing compounds
These products may cause:
- Loss of surface gloss
- Discolouration
- Pitting
- Corrosion
2.3 Treatment After Chemical Contact
If the trim comes into contact with any of the following:
- Tile adhesive
- Grout
- Cement slurry
- Acid wash products
- Chemical cleaners
The affected area should be treated immediately by:
- Rinsing thoroughly with plenty of clean water;
- Cleaning with a neutral detergent;
- Drying with a soft cloth.
Do not allow chemicals to remain on the surface for an extended period.
3. Suitable Use Environments
This product is suitable for:
- Interior walls
- Interior floors
- Bathroom and wet area applications
- Commercial and residential tiling projects
Long-term exposure to the following environments is not recommended:
- Highly acidic environments
- Highly alkaline environments
- Industrial corrosive environments
- Prolonged immersion in seawater
4. Important Notice
Aluminium trims are finished with a decorative surface treatment and are suitable for normal tile installation and everyday use.
Surface damage, discolouration or corrosion may occur if caused by:
- Failure to promptly clean tile adhesive, grout or other cement-based materials during installation;
- Use of strong acids, strong alkalis or other corrosive cleaning products;
- Scratching, impact or sanding caused by human handling;
- Use outside the product’s normal recommended environment.
It is recommended that the trim be inspected and cleaned immediately after installation to help maintain the best long-term appearance.
After installation, if any tile adhesive, grout, cement slurry or similar residue is found on the trim surface, it should be cleaned within 24 hours. Long-term residue may damage the surface finish and may cause loss of gloss, discolouration or corrosion.
